I'm so sorry I've been MIA! Work and life have been insanely busy lately but I'm going on a little stay-cation so I promise I'll write with in the next few days. I'll finish the 30 day challenge (yes even though today is the last day of June), and I got a pretty funny story to share.
I'm ONLY saying this book because not only is it great but it was the book that got me into reading for the rest of my life. I remember I had to read it for a class assignment in about the 3rd or 4th grade and I was SOOO not looking forward to it because it seemed so boring. I mean how good could a book about a dog be? Once my mom starting reading it out loud to me (since I refused to do it on my own), my head got lost in the story and my imagination ran wild. from then on, I was in love! Of course back then, all I really cared about was Sweet Valley Twins but as I got older I discovered some amazing stories and have been addicted ever since.
Top 5 Honorable Mentions: 1. East of Eden (John Steinback can tell a mutha' f****n story!)
2. Water for Elephants (Sara Gruen - I hope the movie they are making doesn't suck)
3. Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd - Tried her other books, which I didn't care for)
4. Sleepers and Gangster (Lorenzo Carcaterra - had to throw them both in because they are that good)
5. The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown - If you could go down on a book this would be the one to do it to)
Honorable mentions: Where The Heart Is, 5 People You Meet In Heaven, The Last Juror, Tara Road, To Kill a Mockingbird, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Pillars of the Earth, Middlesex, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Where The Sidewalk Ends, Green Eggs and Ham, Holes, White Oleander, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Patty Jane's House of Curl, Wish You Well
I'm gonna go with Saturday Night Live. I've watched this show as long as I can remember being alive. I remember getting to stay up late, sitting on the couch between my mom and dad watching John Belushi doing Samurai Futaba, Richord Pryor doing stand up, and the Land Shark skits. And even though the cast has changed and funny skits are mixed in with bad ones, I still watch it every Sunday (gotta DVR that cuz I'm never home on Saturday nights boo! LOL).
Classic SNL - (sorry for the bad quality - if you can find a better full length video holla!)
Honorable mentions MODERN FAMILY, Project Runway, Nip/Tuck, Glee, True Blood, ABDC, Sopranos, The Office, Park & Rec, Six Feet Under, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, Big Love, Mad Men, SATC, Party Down, Martin, In Living Color, Oprah, SYTYCD, Oz, Three's Company, AMTM, MTV, VH1, & BET shows.
Oh man this is another hard one! Okay if I absolutely had to pick then it would be The Color Purple. I watch this every time it's on TV. This is one instance that the movie was just as good as the book IMO!
Honorable mentions - Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Snatch, Goodfellas, Casino, Godfather Pt. 2, Scarface, Usual Suspects, Something About Mary, Outsiders, The Hangover, Gladiator, Stand By Me, Forrest Gump, Almost Famous, Steel Magnolias, Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshal, Wedding Singer, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo's Fire, & Dirty Dancing.
Oh MAN this is a hard one! Music is such a huge part of my life & I have about a billion favorites but if I really really really had to pick just one... it would probably be Cha Cha Cha by MC Lyte.
Being a female in the rap game is interesting because most female MCs feel it is necessary to talk about sex and designer labels just to get a name for themselves. Which is fine, I'm not hatin' on that, but I don't feel it's very original (unless you are Lil Kim who IMO was the originator of female dirty rap). That's why I love MC Lyte. She's true to her style, one of the original MC's in the game (male or female), and is a great role model to millions of young women with the message that you don't have to take your clothes off to sell a record. She paved the way for MCs like Nikki Minaj, Missy Elliot, Lil Kim, Eve, & Foxy Brown.
Even to this day, if you hear Cha Cha Cha at a club/bar people go crazy because the lyrics are still relevant, the beat is still tight, and it puts modern hip hop songs to shame IMO. Without further introduction, my favorite song, Cha Cha Cha...
While watching my favorite make up gurus on YouTube yesterday, I noticed a few of them doing the 30 Challenge which involves vlogging about your favorite item. I decided that I'd do it too, and even though I'm so bad at picking just 1 favorite, I'll try my best to limit my answers.

Some of my favorite YouTube Gurus (who may or may not be doing the challenge):
Soooo who's going to the SF Carnavale Memorial Day weekend??
For those of you who don't know, SF Carnavale is one of the most poppin' festivals/street fairs this side of North America. Harrison Street in SF's Mission District is the home of this cultural explosion where you can dance to samba under a tent filled with over 40 drummers, walk a few more steps and gig to some bomb ass dancehall, walk a couple more steps and eat some Salvadorean pupusas, walk a few more steps and listen to some local Hip Hop, walk a few more steps and mingle with beautiful 1/2 naked women in spakely feathered tiny dance costumes, walk a couple more steps and buy an African Dishiki or a Guayabera, walk a few more steps and purchase some bamboo earrings from Thailand, and all the while be sippin' on that bottle of coke you bought at the corner store that's half way filled with Bacardi. You can't go two minutes without hearing some kind of drums in the distant background, or running into all your old school friends or ex-boo's from back in the days.
For those of you who do know, HEEEEEEEEY I'll see you there!
My girls and I always go on Sunday (since Monday is a holiday) and because the actual parade takes place that morning. I personally think Sunday is the most poppin' day where you'll find the most Frisco Natives (a rare and dying breed). If you can avoid going with your man or girl you should. You don't want to break your neck lookin' at all the eye candy, and there's LOTS of that! Also, if you can avoid driving, have someone drop you off cuz parking that day is near impossible.
I'll leave you with a few images to get you in the mood...
I'm gonna tell you a story in stereo bout' the pimpin' game that you should know but if you don't it's alright cuz I'll be spittin' this game to you all dam night...
When I was 3 years old straight pimp game I was told my daddy sent me to a pimp school in this man's world you can't be no fool
My favorite Jordan's of all time are, and always will be, the THREES baby! Call me old fashion but IMO there's never been a pair that can take them down. The cement grey is just too clean and the all around design is the best. White, Black or the new all White Silver Anniversary... It just don't get any better!
Sorry we've abandoned you my little blog friends. Many a drunken quotes have happened while I've been away and especially since we went to Vegas for a 5 day drunken extravaganza. But seeing as we're good Catholic girls, no one was arrested and I only asked boys to SHOW ME WHAT THEY WERE WORKIN' WITH 3 times. I know, I'm as surprised as you!
Since I can't remember exactly what happened on my 4 month haitus I'll just leave you with this Frisco classic and a promise that I'll post more often...
Because one of the members is currently crippled, I just had a flashback to a night that I was with 3 cripples.
I'm assuming I drove, because there would be no way all 3 of them would have bussed it but I remember walking down the street to the club that is now currently called Club 6. (Shout out to anyone who remembers the old name!)So I'm walking down the street with One who has a banged up knee, probably from wrestling, Two, who somehow managed to sprain her pinky toe (ouch!) and Three, I think she messed up her ankle and had a cane!
So we crack up because they are literally a picture from the Gheto Boys video, "My Mind is Playing Tricks on Me"! I busted out, "then I start shivering, 3 blind, crippled & crazed senior citizens!"
Good times! None of that stopped us from going out!
"We're starting early because I don't want to stay out too late. I don't want to rage... Just having a few drinks" ...
Famous last words.
So we're all set to venture out in hopes of finding a cool new lounge worthy of my upcoming birthday celebration. We get all dressed up; - dresses, boobs galore, smokey eyes and all. I'm talking full "use what we got to get what we want" gear. We even did research to line up prospects for peet sakes. And what happens? We end up right back where we started: a local dive bar back in the Mission where we feel the most at home LOL. We happen to know the bartender and much to our delight, he lets us stay after he kicks everyone out at 2am AND we drink for free until 4.. NICE. "I don't want to rage" my ass!
As usual we spent most of the evening cracking up and as usual I don't remember what the hell was so funny. But here's a few famous quotes of the night I managed to salvage from my druken stupor....
"This is our flask of the night" referring to our huge bottle of Christian Brothers mixed with orange/pineapple/apple juice (P.S. this is a surprisingly GREAT new combo I plan to consume again) (P.S.S. when I got in my car the next morning our "flask" was still sitting in the passenger seat and my car smelled like a bar & it was covered in burrito remnants, thanks girls)
"Hi, remember us?"
Me- "my night is about at an 8"... Tweeker - "Oh really? How can I make it a 10?" she says as she walks out of the bar with my blazer wrapped around her waist.
"Don't start no S-H, there won't be no I-T"
"Two tears in a bucket, fuck it"
Temporary bar friend -"You so sexy, I got some big Philipino for you. Can I have your number?" Me - " Do you remember my name?" Temp. bar friend "Sade?" Me - "yes" Temp bar friend - "Yeah, cuz I don't have a phone" BP out of no where "Um did you just say you don't have a phone????" with disgusted look on her face
"OMG you guys, there's no one in El Farolito!!!!! Hurry get burritos!!!!"
So in conclusion, we didn't find the new cool lounge we set out to find and I even got my new blazer stolen. And after off of that, we still have a fantastic night - as always! Love you guys!
