I'm so sorry I've been MIA! Work and life have been insanely busy lately but I'm going on a little stay-cation so I promise I'll write with in the next few days. I'll finish the 30 day challenge (yes even though today is the last day of June), and I got a pretty funny story to share.
I'm ONLY saying this book because not only is it great but it was the book that got me into reading for the rest of my life. I remember I had to read it for a class assignment in about the 3rd or 4th grade and I was SOOO not looking forward to it because it seemed so boring. I mean how good could a book about a dog be? Once my mom starting reading it out loud to me (since I refused to do it on my own), my head got lost in the story and my imagination ran wild. from then on, I was in love! Of course back then, all I really cared about was Sweet Valley Twins but as I got older I discovered some amazing stories and have been addicted ever since.
Top 5 Honorable Mentions: 1. East of Eden (John Steinback can tell a mutha' f****n story!)
2. Water for Elephants (Sara Gruen - I hope the movie they are making doesn't suck)
3. Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd - Tried her other books, which I didn't care for)
4. Sleepers and Gangster (Lorenzo Carcaterra - had to throw them both in because they are that good)
5. The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown - If you could go down on a book this would be the one to do it to)
Honorable mentions: Where The Heart Is, 5 People You Meet In Heaven, The Last Juror, Tara Road, To Kill a Mockingbird, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Pillars of the Earth, Middlesex, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Where The Sidewalk Ends, Green Eggs and Ham, Holes, White Oleander, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Patty Jane's House of Curl, Wish You Well
I'm gonna go with Saturday Night Live. I've watched this show as long as I can remember being alive. I remember getting to stay up late, sitting on the couch between my mom and dad watching John Belushi doing Samurai Futaba, Richord Pryor doing stand up, and the Land Shark skits. And even though the cast has changed and funny skits are mixed in with bad ones, I still watch it every Sunday (gotta DVR that cuz I'm never home on Saturday nights boo! LOL).
Classic SNL - (sorry for the bad quality - if you can find a better full length video holla!)
Honorable mentions MODERN FAMILY, Project Runway, Nip/Tuck, Glee, True Blood, ABDC, Sopranos, The Office, Park & Rec, Six Feet Under, Nurse Jackie, United States of Tara, Big Love, Mad Men, SATC, Party Down, Martin, In Living Color, Oprah, SYTYCD, Oz, Three's Company, AMTM, MTV, VH1, & BET shows.
Oh man this is another hard one! Okay if I absolutely had to pick then it would be The Color Purple. I watch this every time it's on TV. This is one instance that the movie was just as good as the book IMO!
Honorable mentions - Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Snatch, Goodfellas, Casino, Godfather Pt. 2, Scarface, Usual Suspects, Something About Mary, Outsiders, The Hangover, Gladiator, Stand By Me, Forrest Gump, Almost Famous, Steel Magnolias, Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshal, Wedding Singer, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo's Fire, & Dirty Dancing.
Oh MAN this is a hard one! Music is such a huge part of my life & I have about a billion favorites but if I really really really had to pick just one... it would probably be Cha Cha Cha by MC Lyte.
Being a female in the rap game is interesting because most female MCs feel it is necessary to talk about sex and designer labels just to get a name for themselves. Which is fine, I'm not hatin' on that, but I don't feel it's very original (unless you are Lil Kim who IMO was the originator of female dirty rap). That's why I love MC Lyte. She's true to her style, one of the original MC's in the game (male or female), and is a great role model to millions of young women with the message that you don't have to take your clothes off to sell a record. She paved the way for MCs like Nikki Minaj, Missy Elliot, Lil Kim, Eve, & Foxy Brown.
Even to this day, if you hear Cha Cha Cha at a club/bar people go crazy because the lyrics are still relevant, the beat is still tight, and it puts modern hip hop songs to shame IMO. Without further introduction, my favorite song, Cha Cha Cha...
While watching my favorite make up gurus on YouTube yesterday, I noticed a few of them doing the 30 Challenge which involves vlogging about your favorite item. I decided that I'd do it too, and even though I'm so bad at picking just 1 favorite, I'll try my best to limit my answers.
